THE BINS · THREE QUESTIONS
What rod do I need?
The honest answer is that almost any of them will work, which is not a useful thing to say to somebody standing in a shop. So: three questions, then a specific answer you can walk in and buy.
Nothing here gets emailed to you and nothing here costs more because you used it.
01
Where will you actually fish?
02
After what?
03
What are you spending?
Answer the three above and the answer appears here. No email, no catch.
WHAT THIS WILL NOT DO
- 01Tell you that you need to spend more. Budget rods catch the same trout.
- 02Pretend rod weight is chosen by fish size. It is chosen by the fly and the wind.
- 03Ask you six more questions. Three is enough to be right about this.
The rod is the least important decision.
Drift matters more than rod. Position matters more than drift. A person on the right water with an $89 outfit outfishes a person on the wrong water with all of it — which is the entire reason the Skills Library is bigger than the shop.
